1. Applications

ALKACLEAN SAFETY is a heavy-duty alkaline cleaner (non-caustic) formulated for removing animal and vegetable oils from tanks coated with zinc-based (zinc silicate) coatings.

It is specifically designed to enhance cleaning performance while eliminating the drawbacks associated with traditional caustic cleaners.

ALKACLEAN SAFETY can also be used as a deodorizing agent across various applications.

Properties:

• Appearance: Clear to milky white liquid

• Corrosivity: Suitable for zinc silicate coatings and common metals

• Specific Gravity: 1.1 at 20°C

• pH (1% solution): 7–10

• Flash Point: None

2. Directions for Use

ALKACLEAN SAFETY is recommended for cargo tank/hold cleaning, ensuring no contamination that may affect the next cargo.

• Apply by recirculation or direct use at 5% concentration with fresh water after tanks have been stripped and pre-washed

• Can also be applied neat (undiluted) for spray cleaning applications, followed by thorough rinsing

• Type and adhesion of residues

• Temperature conditions

2.1 Saponification (Animal/Vegetable Oils & Fats)

Saponification is the alkaline hydrolysis of esters, producing alcohols and carboxylate salts.

ALKACLEAN SAFETY breaks down oil structures into fine droplets, facilitating efficient saponification.

2.2 Emulsification (Mineral Oils & Grease)

Non-saponifiable oils are removed through emulsification.

ALKACLEAN SAFETY disperses oil/grease into fine, stable particles in water, preventing re-agglomeration and re-deposition on cleaned surfaces.

2.3 De-agglomeration (Solid Contaminants)

For solids that cannot be removed by saponification, ALKACLEAN SAFETY breaks down aggregated particles into fine dispersions, aiding removal.
